SIGGRAPH 2010

Just got back from my second SIGGRAPH trip, this year in LA. Had a fantastic time, in conference and out. Here is a little gallery of photos I took while there and in San Diego.
Make sure to check out the especially neat pics of the Salk Institute towards the end.

Porsche Shooting Fake: One Year’s Progression

Almost exactly a year ago, I was interning at Top Gear USA, BBC America. I wrote mostly blog entries and photoshopped top-five list headers, but made sure to watch a Top Gear episode weekly and talked about cars all day, I loved it. Before the site was closed and I moved onto doing other stuff for [...]

Studio 1 Project: Compositing

Finally compositing, it feels so good to be back in Nuke. The color is still a bit off and I haven’t added all of the elements but it’s finally coming together.

Studio 1 Project: Rendering Begins

I’ve begun the long process of rendering, these are all straight out of Maya, so they only highlight specific features that the final composite will have. This one shows the light on the wall, which will proudly display the sexy sexy shadows from the smoke. Ground and wall textures are nice and done.

This is a [...]

Studio 1 Project: Breakdown Camera

While everything is coming to a close and I’m working on the painful roto of Nate, I decided I wanted to do something unique for the dynamics breakdown. I had a few ideas but I think I’ve settled on a look that harps back to my high school days: The fisheye.

Right now the video is [...]

Textured Firefly

I’m doing the Visual Effects on another student film called “Bring on the Wonder”. I managed to find time to texture this firefly model today while at work (nobody buys coffee at the SCAD Student Center where I work). Ibtisam Ahmed modeled the little guy a few months ago, and I used mostly projections to [...]

Studio 1 Project: Dynamics

I’m just about finished with the rigid body dynamics (hard objects) and moving onto the soft bodies (mostly bent metal). It was a huge pain getting my macbook pro to run windows and use the graphics card for 3ds Max, not to mention how unstable my copy is, coupled with the also unstable plug I [...]

Octopuses are Interesting

I had a post on my old site about a textured octopus I did last quarter in one night, but unfortunately that site was lost, so I’m reposting now with some new ideas.
I came across this video of an octopus stealing a diver’s camera and making a break for it, and it reminded me of [...]

TheBerrics.com YOUnited Nations Entry

I’m hankering for a skate, but unfortunately too busy and my board is a few hundred miles away. So alas, I’ll just write about it and watch old videos. Last summer, there was a video contest on theberrics.com, a private park and website that’s quickly become a huge part of skateboarding culture. My friends and [...]

Studio 1 Project: Plate, Track, and Geometry

The Plate:

I convinced a few friends to all wake up at 5AM and come with me to Adler hall to shoot. Alex Moed helped shoot an HDR (and tried to do a bit of acting), Ibtisam Ahmed helped with timing and orchestration, and Nathan Kudla blessed us with his performance as the main character.
We decided [...]
