Hardest track of my life (so far)

I should have had my eyes glued to the screen, ignoring all of reality. It was two weeks before finals, but instead of learning from my lessons, I let a classmate, Jon Balcome, entice me with his project he was wrapping up on, a music video for Yotam Dor. He was just about done, but had a shot left that refused to track. I like to think I’m good at tracking and match moving, so I thought to myself, “ooo, you can do this, no problem, and then you can put it in your reel.”

Two days later, Jon is calling me and I’ve had no sleep, throwing everything I had at this stupid clip. I was supposed to composite images onto three TVs, but it was shot extremely dark, a style preference of the DP. Very quickly, it became a test of time management, any method might work, I’d just have to pick one and stick with it. I like learning, I’d never tried Mocha planar tracking before, figured it was as good a time as any to learn. I wish I could make this more interesting, but all I did was sit there with my laptop until the track worked; there were more bumps and hurls, but there always are.

Anyway, I got to play with some nice high res Red footage, and composite the nice heart renders Jon’s been working on. Here’s a few still, but to get a real feel for the shot you have to watch it in my reel.
